Field Day Announcement

June 15, 2020

Hello, Coe Cougars,

Well, here we are in our last week of the school year. I encourage you to finish strong. Although we are missing our traditional end of school year activities, we can finish up this week with a flourish and participate in our inaugural non-traditional 2020 Coe Virtual Field Day. Wednesday, June 17, is Field Day! Let’s make the best of it in true Coe Cougar Spirit! Just click the Coe Field Day button, and you are good to go.

I want to offer a special congratulations to our graduating 5th Grade Class! You came through in fine Coe Cougar Spirit in the most difficult of circumstances. Enjoy your graduation on Friday and have a great summer. Please, stay in touch. And, no matter what middle school you attend, remember to always Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Coe!

Hello Coe Cougars,

Here we are in the last week of May. Our days are getting longer as we approach the summer solstice. Getting outside for your daily exercise is more and more an option. Please, take advantage of the nice weather days and  get some fresh air into your lungs. When outdoors, always follow your family guidelines in regard to social distancing and the wearing of masks. In my "Juggling Your Nutritional Needs" message, I was trying to have a little fun while reminding you of the importance of a healthy diet. With outdoor activities and warmer weather, it is also important to stay hydrated. Drinking an 8 oz. glass of water, or another healthy beverage, 8 times each day should keep you well hydrated. Below, you will find links to nutrition and hydration activity challenges.

Now for a little fun. You can go on a little scavenger hunt through Mr. Murray's website to find a number of fun indoor and outdoor scavenger hunts. Can you find where to begin? Then, off you go. Good luck, have fun and stay active and healthy.

Take care.

Mr. Murray

Wow! Here we are well into the month of May, and starting to get our share of warm and sunny days. I hope that everyone is getting outside and getting in their healthy minimum of 60 minutes of exercise a day. Walking, jogging and riding a bicycle are probably the easiest and most common ways to get in some moderately intense physical activity. Moderate to intense physical activity supports the fitness component of cardiorespiratory endurance, which is defined as - the heart and lungs working together to supply oxygen to the muscles during a long period of physical activity. Older Coe kids might be able to get out in the neighborhood independently for some good exercise, whereas our younger kids may need to wait until parents are available to supervise and keep you safe. So, if you can't get out or it's a rainy day, here are some ideas on how to work on your cardiorespiratory endurance while in your house or yard.

You can have fun with a jump rope. Jumping rope has always been a fun way to exercise. All you need is a length of rope and some practice. It's possible to find space indoors for jumping rope. Parents can help you find an approved spot. You can jump rope just about anywhere outside. I've attached a link to a local jump rope expert - Rene Bibaud. She is a five time world champion at jump rope and has performed jump rope with Cirque du Soliel. Check her out.

If it's raining, and you can't find a safe spot for indoor jump rope, dancing is another way to get in some good cardiorespiratory endurance exercise. A Seattle School District Health and Fitness teacher is part of dance group called danSIRS. I have attached their latest video, which had to be created with each of them in separate safe distance locations. You might recognize the Seattle teacher, Alex, from some of the fitness videos that I have posted. Check out their latest, which dances along to a Macklemore song. You can dance along to their choreography or make up your own moves!

Take good care of each other, stay safe and stay fit.
