Welcome to Coe School Virtual Field Day 2020! SAVE THE DATE!

                               Wednesday, June 17

Coe Cougars,

Coe School will be having a Virtual Field Day. It will not be quite the same as our traditional Field Day, but with a little Coe Cougar Spirit, we can pull it off. There will be 22 activities from which to choose. Choose just a few or choose them all. You can take all day to get to any of the activities that you choose. All of the activities can be put together from simple equipment found around your home. The activities can be set up indoors or outdoors. Keep score and send Mr. Murray your scorecards, and you will receive a certificate of participation. If your family wants to take a photo of you participating in an activity, you will be able to send the photo to Mr. Murray and Mr. Z, and they will put together a slide show that you can watch later in the week. Send your photo to coestudent24@hotmail.com any time through the end of day, June 17. Please, be aware that if you send in a photo, it will be on public display when the slide show is posted. Although, our Virtual Field Day is set for June 17, you can get started right away, checking out the activities, getting your equipment set up and practicing.

Clicking on the 2020 Coe Field Day button will take you to the Field Day resource site. Field Day resources are being generously offered by Open Physical Education Network. As a national organization, they had a “live” Field Day event on May 8. We have access to all of their fantastic Field Day resources, but I would like to take you through the complicated site just a little. Some “do’s and don’ts”. Of course, you are welcome to check out each and every bit of information on their site, but if you want to streamline your Field Day experience, you can follow these guidelines.

  • You do not have to register, even though it still asks you to. No harm if you do, but it will not generate any responses or additional information from OpenPE.

  • Ignore any t-shirt offers. They are no longer being offered.

  • For the simplest way to the complete packet of all that you will need, click and download the “Full Family Packet” PDF only. The “Full Family Packet” has:

    • Equipment list - simple items found around the home
    • Practice scorecards, if you want to practice each activity ahead of June 17
    • Instructions for all of the activities
    • Scorecards that list each of the 22 activities. You can send completed scorecards to Mr. Murray, and he will send you a Certificate of Participation.

Something worth looking at in the OpenPE Field Day site is a link to their videos that demonstrate each of the 22 activities. And, you can look at “Mr. Murray Picks Six.” He picked six of his favorites and demonstrated them at his home. Links to both video demonstrations are below.

That’s about all you need to know and to do in order to participate in our Field Day 2020 on June 17. You can check it out between now and next Wednesday and be all prepared. Email me if you have any questions. And, I will be at my email all day on June 17, checking for any communications from families that need help. rjmurray@seattleschools.org Mr. Z will be monitoring any photos being sent in. coestudent24@hotmail.com
